I am one of the staff members of the Tokyo Dietetic College. We have an English class for freshman. They learn basic English knowledge and communication skills to be familiar with technical terms on nurtrition and cooking.
One day, a word "simmer" written in the English textbook caught my attention. I looked up the meaning of the word in a dictionary. It means to cook something by keeping it just below its boiling point. Making a stew is an example. When you simmer meat and vegetables for hours to make a stew, the aloma of the simmered meat and vegetables that I like spread over the kitchen. I also feel very happy to hear the sound when food is simmered. Compared to "simmer", a word "boil" means to cook something until it reaches its boiling point.
The pictures below show the difference between the two words.

The students also learn expressions of how to cook "Washoku" in English as well as reading and understanding English menus. You will definitely have a lot of fun in our English class, as our English teacher helps you to learn this foreign lauguage from a various perspective such as English pronunciation, accent, intonation, grammer and so forth.
Please come to our Open Campus. We are waiting for your visit to the Tokyo Dietetic College.
